On day 1 , we visited the coloseum with a tour guide who we refer to as "Calvin" (becuase every time his back was turned toward us you could see his red Calvin Klein underwear). We learned that the coloseum actually got filled with water a few times back in it's hay day, and people would reinact old ship battles. They estimated that about 700,000 people died in the coloseum for entertainment purposes. Our tour guide joked that if the coloseum was in England the people would be freaked out because it would be full of ghosts, but in Rome we are OK because we have the pope!
On day 2, we let the big girls ditch us and Don and I took the little kids to lunch and then to St. Peter's square, the Vatican, and the Sistine Chapel. We needed more time... so we will all go back tomorrow after we see the Pantheon.
