Vancouver: May 5 to 13, 2012 — Vancouver, Canada

Vancouver, Canada

Vancouver May 5 to May 13

Brian flew back to Hong Kong in early May for family reasons. Instead of going with him, I booked a flight to Vancouver to see my own family. Because I wasn't flying with Brian and I was less than 1000 miles away from Mileage Plus Silver Status, I went through the long (non-premier) security line, boarded the plane in the last group (and subsequently had to check in my carry-on bag), and had to chew on the back of the economy seat in front of me. I'm shamefully spoiled by Brian's airline status and should rightfully stop calling him a "miles ho". I'll try. Anyway, thankfully for once this flight wasn't delayed and I was in Vancouver soon enough. Btw, there was a Japadog stand outside of the parking garage facing the International Arrivals! We didn't stop because we were off to have some great Malay food at Tamarind Hill in New Westminster.

I spent the whole week hanging out with my mom, cooking every day, and relaxing. Unfortunately I caught a cold while I was up there but it didn't stop me from taking the opportunity to have some great BC spot prawns (twice!), dungeness crab, and Fanny Bay oysters. My mom also made some delicious scones, strawberry rhubarb crisp, and pulut hitam (black rice pudding). We had a fantastic and delicious crepe party with my extended family as an early Mother's Day lunch. I watched several movies with my mom and we got our sci-fi fix by watching old episodes of Torchwood. It was a great week.
